The Chicago Bulls and Boston Celtics have been allegedly had trade talks involving Ray Allen and Kirk Hinrich. A deal that would send Ray Allen and Marquis Daniels to the Bulls for Kirk Hinrich, John Salmons, and Tyrus Thomas would fill both teams needs.
The Celtics would get more weapons for this postseason. Hinrich and Salmons would provide a better defensive guard rotation and some extra players who can score the ball. However, Paul Pierce would be asked to hit more 3′s if this were the case. Tyrus Thomas would also provide the C’s with some much needed weak-side defensive help. Kevin Garnett is not even close to being the defensive presence he has been in the past. Thomas could give some crucial minutes off the bench for the Celtics, improving their team defense.
Meanwhile, the Bulls would have huge financial relief with Allen’s $18 million expiring contract. This trade would allow the Bulls to sign two free agents at maximum length deals this summer in free agency. Allen would also provide three point shooting that the Bulls have missed since Ben Gordon’s departure, and a veteran presence in the locker room.
This trade would have an instant impact on the Celtics and possibly a franchise-changing impact on the Bulls (in free agency). Of all the Ray Allen trade rumors thus far, this one may have the best chance to go through.
