Federal Government Anticipates Battering By Jack Frost: No Work Tuesday

Severe Winter Weather

Jack Frost is gearing up to put the smack down on the East Coast yet again, and the federal government want none of it.

According to the latest OPM operating status, the Federal Government is closed Tuesday, February 9, 2010.  The announcement comes due to the news that there is a weather forecast for high snowfall in the Washington, DC area on Tuesday, just days after a huge snow storm blanketed the nation’s capital.  This will mean that all Federal agencies in Washington, DC will be closed on Tuesday.

The decision affects about 230,000 government employees who work inside the Washington Beltway. It costs the government roughly $100 million to close for the day.

According to AccuWeather.com A large snowstorm that began to hit the Plains on Sunday is spreading into the Midwest with not only snow, but also gusty winds and Arctic cold that will seriously slow or shut down travel. The storm is part of a fierce duo of new snowstorms this week that is estimated to affect over half of the national population. Accuweather predicts this week could go down as the worse winter so far.

It would seem that groundhog Punxsutawney Phil was right. These next 6 weeks may be rough. [Gather.com]
