Two and a Half Men star Charlie Sheen has checked himself into rehab as a precautionary measure against substance abuse relapse, the Daily News reports. The move comes on the heels of a trying few months for the 44 year old actor, including charges that he threatened his wife with a knife in December, and the reported theft and destruction of his car earlier this month.
Although Sheen’s absence will affect the filming of the show, CBS, Warner Brothers and Two and a Half Men‘s creator Chuck Lorre have come out in full support. Production is currently suspended, though reports state they plan to adjust the rest of the series’ season to accommodate Sheen’s voluntary admission to an in-patient care program.
“We wish him nothing but the best as he deals with this personal matter,” read a joint statement from CBS, Warner Brothers and Lorre.
Sheen’s representative Stan Rosenfield offered little opinion or personal remark. “As a preventative measure, Charlie Sheen has entered a rehabilitation facility,” he said. “I can’t say anything more.”
Sheen’s wife, Brooke Mueller, has requested the charges against him for threatening her at knife point be dropped. Meanwhile, she is also in rehab.
