Edwin Fry loves his prize pooch. When his dog, Buddy Tough, found himself locked up in the town kennel, Fry decided that there was only one option. He would bust him out of jail.

Fry could have paid the $100 fine to have his dog released, but instead, he decided to visit the pound with a pair of bolt cutters. It would have been the perfect crime, but Fry forget to use a get-away vehicle capable of hitting 10 mph.

Fry busted his dog out of the town kennel, then fled on his ride-a-long lawnmower.

Hydro, Oklahoma police officer Chris Chancellor said:

“I’ve been in law enforcement 20 years, and this is the first time I’ve known of anyone that has busted a dog out of jail.”

According to the Associated Press, Fry spent several days in jail as he was charged for allowing an animal to run at-large. Fry didn’t deny the charge, but told police that they should leave his dog alone unless they wanted to face his shotgun.

Sadly, the dog was euthanized when Fry was in prison.

  • Why in God’s name did they euthanize the dog? They knew it belonged to someone! Those are the people who should be charged and sent to jail! Whatever the man’s problems were, killing his dog didn’t solve anything. This is a terrible turn of events, and they should be horribly ashamed and have to answer for such an act!

  • What kind of person decided to euthanizing the dog? It was clearly very important to the poor man. I wonder if people ever stop to consider that following the rules isn’t always right. Or that what they do has a huge impact on other people.

  • Hydro, Oklahoma……..the heartless SOB’s who live there must be proud to lock up a 73 year old man and kill his damn dog

Hydro, Oklahoma in one place I hopes a Tornado eats very soon taking the heartless trash that lives there with it

  • This is disgusting. The director of the animal shelter and the vet who did the euthanizing should be fired. A complaint should be brought to the council. This killing facility is being run by the public’s money and should be used for the good of animal and man. If no one speaks up, then this kind of callousness will continue. For God’s sake, in a world where too many animals have no one who cares for them, to actually have one who is so obviously wanted, no matter the offense the man gave, the job of the shelter should be to service the dog having a loving home. He screwed up, but it’s obvious to a blind man that that dog was cared for. They should have held the dog till someone fronted the money and the man could get his dog after he got out of jail.

Horrible people. Horrible, horrible people. If there is a God, then surely you shall end up in hell.

And I can hear the the trumped up charges now…’the dogs was aggressive,’ ‘a public nuisance.’ Don’t be fooled people. They’re just covering their a**es.

    • Horrible place, horrible, horrible people… HYDRO, OK… remember that name!!!
You know a vet did not do “THE” deed… some cruel, dog and human hating person did… a vet would lose his license for a trick like this!!!

    • The dog was not euthanized. The idiot cop who picked him up put him in a box instead of a kennel and the fumes from his cop car killed the dog. If he would have put it in a pet carrier or portable kennel, the dog would still be alive. What if was a small child? This idiot should be charged with animal cruelty.

  • Animal Lover in Laguna Beach

They killed the dog-OMG! I had to read this twice to believe what I was reading. Who cares about the damn lawnmower? The poor dog being killed is written like an after thought. I think Hydro, Oklahoma Animal Shelter should get all sorts of negative publicity. I hope people call, write and if possible personally visit-whoever decided the dog should be put down should be ashamed of themself. That was not necessary-Why not find him a better home or help the man who obviously loved him enough to steal to get him back. What a sad show of humanity!

    • I live in Fullerton CA and am saddened and disgusted by this story! Is there no concern for neighbors and their beloved animals in Hydro??
What disgusting folks must live there to allow this kind of disgusting event to take place.
YES… never go to Hydro OK or if you do… go FAST, they might euthanize you!!

  • Why is the person, or persons, who authorized the “euthanasia” (sic) for this poor dog not being charged with animal cruelty?

    • You are right!! Morons should NOT be allowed to run free in the neighborhood. They might run at large and disturb someone!
      Incarcerate all of them!!!

  • MONSTERS! I cannot believe they killed the guy’s dog!! That is disgusting. Damn Okies!

  • That’s horrible! Who ever authorized so called euthanasia to kill the old guy’s dog should be hounded out of the town. Old time police would not have let this happen. How much safer the citizens of this town must feel now. I can hardly believe it – this is on the same order of behavior as the woman that threw the cat in the trash.

    • WORSE… the cat lived and was right outside of it’s home and found in the trash container of it’s owner.
This is far, far worse.. the dog is DEAD!!!
And the folks in his town are pleased and happy????
      What MORONS they are!!!

  • i’m calling the president!!!

  • Big Brother proving a point, of course, and making an example of this poor man. This could be any of us who refuse to bend over and take it. It’s not about justice anymore…just power.

  • that dog pound should be closed down and i hope the man sues them

  • The dog was not “euthanized”, the idiot cop put him in a box and the dog was killed by the officers exhaust fumes from his car. I cannot imagine a poodle being a big enough nuisance that it would be treated so cruelly, or an old veteran who served his country being disrespected in this way. Tolerance and respect to our elders should be practiced. Common sense should have kicked in and in a town this small, the officer knew that this old man loved his dog. There are so many abandoned animals, why take one who has an owner and then kill it in an irresponsible way? Why the sudden enforcement of a leash law? Sounds to me like this officer needs training on respect. He could have “kept order” by simply taking the leashless dog back to his owner, knowing he loved his dog. Our animal patrol officers try to keep dogs out of the shelter, and only pick up abandoned animals, not animals with known owners.
