Librarian Claims Guinness Record for Most Belly-Button Fluff
It is probably the most prestigious of all the records in the Guinness Book of World Records. But only one person can own the record for the world’s largest collection of navel fluff, and that man is Graham Barker, a 45-year-old librarian from Australia.
According to the Telegraph, Barker has collected 22.1 grams belly-button lint over the past two and a half decades. Barker started his collection in 1984 out of “simple curiosity.” The unusual habit is earned Barker his own Guinness World Record, plus a whole bunch of jars filled with belly-button fluff.
Barker said:
“One evening, when a little under-occupied, I noticed the lint in my navel and started wondering about it. I became curious as to how much of it one person can produce, and decided the only way to find out was to collect it for a while and see.”
But Barker isn’t just some lint collecting hack. He has a system worked out to make the most of his efforts.
Barker wears thermal underwear, because he has found that it produces the most belly-button lint. And Barker keeps his navel fluff in different jars, depending on its color.
Barker said:
“The raw material is worthless but as a unique world record collection and a piece of cultural heritage, of debatable merit, it has some curiosity value.”
Barker has sold three jars of belly-button lint to a museum for an undisclosed price.
