School VP Clint McCance Quits, Apologizes, After Facebook Gay Bashing Rant
Clint McCance is the vice president of the Midland School District in Pleasant Plains, Arkansas, or at least he was. Last week, McCance went on a Facebook rant saying that he hopes all gays kill themselves. His hateful gay bashing rant was triggered by spirit day, which encouraged people to wear purple in honor of the gay teens who committed suicide this year.
Here are some of McCance’s comments:
“The only way im wearin it (purple) for them is if they all commit suicide.”
“I also enjoy the fact that they often give each other aids and die.”
McCance talked to Anderson Cooper on Thursday night, and Cooper got McCance to apologize for his remarks, and to quit from his position on the school board.
According to the Upshot, McCance has received thousands of hateful emails after his comments were made public.
McCance said:
“I’m reaping what I’ve sown. I’ve had a lot of hate speech thrown at me and my family on every level.”
Education officials in the state condemned McCance’s comments, but said that they couldn’t fire him because he was an elected official. McCance announced on Thursday that he would resign.

One would reflexively wish that someone who hates in that manner should be forced to experience the suffering he would impose on his victims. Should such a hateful person be allowed to have children, freedom, access to media, whatever, because his views can spread to others? How does a so-called civilized and privileged society produce such a person? To use an ancient religious book to support such views is gross and disgusting. Since such self-righteous hate is a worse disease than anything any fragile suicidal and vicitimized gay can produce, can such people be allowed to get away with it, allowed their freedom? The religious right are a loathsome crowd of self-righteous haters, this has nothing to do with God or the kindness and compassion that religion advocates. The real disease is self-righteousness and it should be rooted out in the early stages of our lives.

Your response is not too different than Mr. McCance’s comments! The only difference is that you are hating him for his hateful speech. While we don’t agree with people’s choices it doesn’t give us license to be hateful. I agree with you that self-righteousness is a terrible sin. It is pointed out that pride is the first step before our destruction. We need to be careful not to fall into the trap of placing ourselves above others and call for their destruction. I am sorry to see that you call for his “rooting out”. Isn’t that the same thing that a hateful person would say about gays? No, rooting out is not the answer, love is the answer. People call for tolerance but God calls for love of one another. I hear your frustration, but mankind has never been able to stomp out or root out what they did not agree with. God never calls us to be critical or judgmental of one another, but to love our neighbor as ourselves. Yes, I am a follower of Jesus Christ and of that as you call the “acient book”. If I allow God’s Spirit to guide my spirit in love then I don’t make hateful errors, even when others are living a way that I know is wrong. When my children were growing up, they sometimes chose actions that were against my wishes. I knew they were wrong, they thought they were right, but I never stopped loving them and never thought about ending their existence. This man’s statements were hateful but we still need to treat him with God’s love even though we do not agree with him. Pretty crazy way to think and live isn’t it? Hey thanks for hearing me out. No greater love has a person than one who will lay his life down for another.

Judging from his (lack of) mastery of the English language, it is clear that Mr. McCance is just another run-of-the-mill ignorant white trash. What kills me is that these conservatives claim to be about individual liberty and the Constitution but really what they want is to kick the government out of the board room but allow it free access to the bedroom. Anyone who believes that this country was founded as a Christian nation, that our founding fathers did intend for a “wall of separation between church and state” and that our founding fathers were infallible are ignorant and un-informed. These people claim to be Christians but fail to acknowledge that “all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God”. Therefore, whether your greatest sin is homosexuality (not a sin for the record), lust, covetousness or bearing false witness, your sins are all equally repulsive to God. According to christian theology, God is perfect and holy and as such cannot be in the presence of anything uholy. in order to reconcile this dilemma, Chirst came as the perfect sacrifice to “once and for all” pay for the sins of the world. St. Paul teaches us that the only price for salvation, is to relinquish the self and to accept the grace of god. So tell me how the message of the right, where it concerns homosexuality, is at all logically consistent with these ideals.
