Health Expert Loses 27 Pounds on Twinkie Diet
Readers of IndyPosted.com know of the professor of human nutrition at Kansas State University who subsisted on Twinkies and other cakes and cookies for 10 weeks.
The results are in. He lost 27 pounds by downing the iconic creme filled yellow cakes.
CNN is reporting that Mark Haub’s “convenience store diet” was eating a Twinkie every three hours but adding Little Debbie snack cakes, Doritos and Oreos so he wouldn’t get bored with the Twinkie routine.
His wanted to prove his theory that pure calorie counting means weight loss. The nutritional value was immaterial.
CNN reports, his “bad” cholesterol, or LDL, dropped 20% and his “good” cholesterol, or HDL, increased by 20%. He also lowered the level of triglycerides, which are a form of fat, by 39%.
He is totally puzzled by his cholesterol counts. Haub said:
“That’s where the head scratching comes. What does that mean? Does that mean I’m healthier? Or does it mean how we define health from a biology standpoint, that we’re missing something?”
Twinkie lovers save the rejoicing. Haub also took a multivitamin and drank a protein shake everyday, he also at veggies.
Should overweight people embrace the Twinkie Diet?
“I’m not geared to say this is a good thing to do. I’m stuck in the middle. I guess that’s the frustrating part. I can’t give a concrete answer. There’s not enough information to do that.”
