Have you ever come home from a party, only to send a drunken tweet to an ex-girlfriend? Or posted an embarrassing picture or video? Or how about updated your Facebook status to something like, “Ims oooo durnk.” If you have, you need to use the Social Media Sobriety Test.

The Social Media Sobriety Test is a free Firefox plug-in from online-security company Webroot. The plug-in allows you to name sites and times that might need a little surveillance.

If you block Facebook from midnight to 5am, and you try to access the social networking site during that time, you will be asked to pass a sobriety test. A writer at CNN tried it out (completely sober) and was asked to try to keep his cursor inside a moving circle. Another tests involves typing the alphabet backward.

The Social Media Sobriety Test website reads:

“Nothing good happens online after 1a.m. Put an end to the embarrassment that follows regrettable, late-night posts… Pass a simple test to prove you’re sound of mind. Post away or, if you fail, maybe just go to bed.”

If you doubt that a tool like this is needed, the Social Media Sobriety Test website offers up a few examples of drunken posts.

“Day number 2. Still drunk! Lmaooooo,” reads one. “Did I really just get lost in my apt complex and google mapped my way back? Yes. Oh Jameson,” says another. “I’m drunk, ate 4 bags of doritos and a box of pizza pops. Who wants to webcam?”

If drunk tweeting is a major problem in your life, The Social Media Sobriety Test, or AA, is there to help.
