John McCain Blocking “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” Repeal
John McCain is blocking the repeal of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy. During the primary elections McCain promised that he would ensure “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” remained in place and with a dwindling Congressional calendar during the lame-duck period McCain has worked to delay the repeal as much as humanly possible.
Included in his attempts to block the repeal was his blocking for a defense bill which included the repeal.
Pentagon officials are now working on how to best roll back the ban which will be announced on Dec. 1st but which will also leave very little time to pass the measure before Republicans take office.
While Robert Gates believes the repeal is a smart decision, he is not joined in that sentiment by the chiefs of the Army, Airforce or Navy.
