Antonio Margarito took a beating from Manny Pacquiao the other night. Margarito reportedly broke his orbital bone, and will need to undergo face surgery to have the orbital bone fixed.
According to the LA Times, Margarito was taken to the hospital to be examined after the fight. Margarito received stitches, was given a brain scan, and doctors determined that he had broken his orbital bone.
Sergio Diaz, Margarito’s co-manager, said that an eye muscle is lodged in the fracture and the fighter will have to undergo surgery to have it repaired.
“The doctor mentioned that it is a common injury and there is nothing to be worried about.”
Margarito’s eyes were so swollen during the fight, that Pacquiao repeatedly looked to see if the ref would call the fight.
“I told the referee, ‘Look at his eyes, look at his cuts. I did not want to damage him permanently. That’s not what boxing is about.”
Pacquiao improved to 52-3-2 with 38 knockouts after Saturday night’s fight against Margarito.
