If you believe the rumors, Google has bought discount website Groupon for 2.5 billion dollars. Neither Google nor Groupon have made comment on the deal.
According to the Telegraph, Google and Groupon have been in talks for the last several weeks, and may have finally signed the papers over the weekend. The rumor was first reported by Vator.tv, which says that an unnamed source confirmed the deal.
Groupon is a relatively new website, it was founded in 2008, but has monthly revenues of about $500 million. According to Vapor.tv, Groupon has over 20 million subscribers in 29 countries.
The company was valued at $1.3 billion, but Google reportedly paid between 2 and 3 billion dollars. If the rumors are true, expect Google to incorporate Groupon into its Google Places tool, and other location based services.
