Erin Andrews' Peeping Tom Gets 2-1/2 Year Prison Term
Under a plea bargain, the stalker who shot video of ESPN’s Erin Andrews through a hotel peephole, was sentenced 30 months in the slammer today on a charge of interstate stalking. Michael Barrett, 48, a Chicago area insurance executive, apologized to Andrews in Los Angeles federal court today after the judge handed down the jail sentence. Under the guilty plea, Barrett must surrender to federal prison authorities by May 1.
Andrews has been on record all along that he should have received more time behind bars. According to AP, his apology fell on deaf ears:
“You violated me and you violated all women,” Andrews told Barrett. “You are a sexual predator, a sexual deviant and they should lock you up.”
Barrett admitted renting hotel rooms next to Andrews three times and shooting two videos of her while she was naked. He was accused of posting the videos online and trying to sell them to Los Angeles-based celebrity gossip site TMZ last year.
In addition to her sports reporting gig, Andrews will be a contestant on the new season of Dancing With the Stars.
