The vote for Health Care is teetering on the edge of a decision and The Huffington Post is now reporting that a deal has been struck in the final hours of the reform act that would keep abortion funding off the table.
According to their report, Rep. Bart Stupak released the following statement about the abortion agreement:
“I’m pleased to announce that we have an agreement…to protect the sanctity of life in health care reform.” The executive order will make clear that federal funds will not go to abortion services. “We’ve all stood on principle.”
Rep. Nick Rahall (D-Va.) went on to call health care reform the “most pro-life legislation I will vote upon in my 34 years in Congress.”
Stupak did question why the compromise was made in the last moments of the day, after Democrats had already announced they had the votes necessary to pass the bill. However the deal is seen largely as a way to help protect the majority. [image: HuffPost]
