If there’s one thing you can say about Twilight fans, it’s that they’re loyal. Every book, movie, and promotional item that comes out, they’re going to want. And it seems that they’re most passionate about the DVD releases. The second Twilight movie, New Moon, was just released on DVD last weekend. And it sold over 4 million units the first weekend!

The first Twilight movie only sold 3.8 million units, so New Moon beat the sales by a pretty good amount. This isn’t quite as impressive when you see how much New Moon outsold Twilight at the theaters. When Twilight was released in 2008, it made $192.8 million in theaters. And when New Moon was released at the end of 2009, it made $296.6 million. Still, DVD sales have declined so much in the past year, New Moon‘s sale numbers are pretty huge.

So, New Moon beat Twilight for its first weekend sales, but can it beat DVD sales overall? Twilight sold 2.9 million units and was the best-selling DVD of 2009. New Moon is going to be up a lot of other fabulous movies in 2010, including Avatar.

In other exciting Twilight news, Eclipse is set to hit theaters June 30. Will it beat both Twilight and New Moon theater numbers?
