Jeff Bridges praises ‘remarkable’ co-star
Jeff Bridges says his co-star Hailee Steinfeld’s performance in True Grit is “remarkable”.
The veteran actor appears in the latest Coen brother’s film with the 14-year-old newcomer. The movie tells the story of a young woman’s desire to avenge the death of her murdered father and the man hired to help her.
The 61-year-old has nothing but praise for his young co-star who he believes excelled herself with a performance worthy of an experienced actress.
“What a tough, challenging role for a seasoned actor. All that dialogue, kind of tricky way of speaking. Thirteen-year-old girl, never been in a movie, and she comes up with that performance. Isn’t that remarkable,” he told MTV.
With rumours abounding that the rookie actress may be recognised with an Oscar nod for her work, Jeff confirmed that her performance was all her own and not coerced by the actor or directors. He went on to confess he had on occasions advised the young starlet but soon wished he hadn’t.
“I might have slipped out a tip once or twice, and I always regret when I would do that. It’s almost like a reflex action — you can’t help but put yourself into the other actor’s position sometimes,” he added. “I always appreciate a tip from some guy, one of the other players, but no, I let her run free. The brothers directed her beautifully.”
