Mariah Carey: Pregnancy inspired album
Mariah Carey says that getting pregnant inspired her to create a second Christmas album.
The American singer is currently enjoying success in the charts with her album Merry Christmas II You, which features many traditional songs such as O Come All Ye Faithful and O Holy Night.
Mariah has revealed that her raging hormones made her feel far more festive and motivated her to release a second album for the winter holidays.
“It’s been a while since my first Christmas album Merry Christmas and this year I was full of excitement about becoming a mom, and it felt right to make this album,” she told Pride magazine.
Mariah is married to American entertainer Nick Cannon and the pair enjoy listening to a variety of yuletide songs together.
In particular, Mariah favours “timeless” tracks that everyone associates with this time of year.
“I was really inspired by classic Christmas songs by Bing Crosby and Nat King Cole and festive, timeless fun Christmas records by the likes of Jackson 5 and Donnie Hathaway,” she said.
