ThinkEco Modlet Outlet Promises To Reduce Phantom Power

Picture this, you turn off your TV, Computer, Toaster, etc…and you believe you’re cutting off the cost of using those devices, however in reality those gadgets are still drawing power, often referred to as Phantom or Vampire power. Thankfully there is now a way to greatly reduce that phantom power draw, a new outlet designed by ThinkEco.
The “Modlet” is a wirelessly communicating outlet that offers two power plugs and a USB receiver. The outlet plugs into your current wall outlet, just like you would find with a surge protector and it costs $50 per unit.
The outlet works by scheduling power shut offs based on the historic usage patterns of your devices and the company says that shut off schedule will help users pay for their purchase in just a 6 to 9 month period.
ThinkEco will show off the modlet this week at CES 2011. Be sure to check back for our live coverage of the event.
