World’s Largest Cave Discovered in Vietnam [Gallery]
How big is the world’s largest cave? A new cave discovered in the Annamite Mountains in Vietnam could fit a city block of New York skyscrapers inside. Of course, there are no skyscrapers in the Hang Son Doong cave, but there are jungles, rivers, and even a thin layer of clouds.
The Hang Son Doong cave was first explored by Howard and Deb Limbert of England in 2009, but a huge calcite wall prevented the couple from exploring deep into the cave. The Hang Son Doong cave, which translates to “mountain river cave,” contains a network of more than 150 caves, and explorers have yet to find the caves end.
The massive cave in Vietnam has caused some to call it the “world’s biggest cave.” They’ll have to keep exploring though if they want to find out just how big this cave really is.
Here are some pictures of the massive cave in Vietnam.
