Cathy Cruz Marreo, a mall employee, was walking through the mall while texting on her phone. Marreo did not see the enormous fountain in front of her, tripped, and fell in. The embarrassing moment was multiplied when it founds its way onto Youtube and morning talk shows. But Marreo wants everyone to stop laughing. She plans to sue the mall.
Marreo says that the security guards who supposedly put the video up on Youtube were too busy laughing, when they should have been running to her aid.
“My issue is I don’t think security was professional because they didn’t send anyone to check on me until 20 minutes later and I had already left.”
Cathy Marreo has an attorney, James M. Polyak, and the two plan an investigation into the incident.
“We are troubled by the fact that anyone at the Berkshire Mall responsible for releasing this video would find humor in an employee injured on the premises. We intend to hold the appropriate persons responsible. No one from that security office came to her aid in a timely manner.”
Marreo appeared on Good Morning America this morning and said that she was texting her birthday to a fellow church member when she fell in the fountain. Marreo also said that she was an employee at the mall, so chances are that she has seen the fountain before.
The lawsuit adds just a little bit more to the ridiculousness of this situation. But there is a serious side, according to Cruz, and she has a message for the young generation.
“Don’t walk and text,” Marreo said. “It can happen to anyone.
Here’s the video of the incident.
