Steve Jobs has been on medical leave from Apple, but thought that the unveiling of the second generation iPad was important enough to make an appearance. The crowd was appreciative and give Jobs a standing ovation as he took the stage.

Jobs said:

“We’ve been working on this product for a while, and I didn’t want to miss today. Thank you for having me.”

Jobs unveiled iPad 2, which is thinner than the original iPad, has two cameras, and a faster processor.

Jobs said:

“The new iPad 2 is actually thinner than your iPhone 4.”

The new generation iPad will be priced the same as the original. The new iPad will go on sale on March 11th in the US, and March 25th in 26 other countries.

Jobs announced an indefinite leave of absence from April in January to deal with health problems. Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook has been running Apple in Jobs’ absence.
