Nashville

Tennessee, where Jack Daniels fine sippin’ whiskey is distilled, the home of Beale Street Blues and country music has put three cities on the list of the U.S. “soberest cities.”

Nashville, central Tennessee, home to Yazoo Brewing Co.,  ranked No. 1 on the list. The Volunteer State took the three top spots, with Kingsport-Bristol, east Tennessee,  ranked No. 2 and Memphis, western Tennessee, was ranked No. 3.

The Business Journals describe how the The Daily Beast choose Tennessee to sweep the podium in this dubious category:

“To find the driest towns in America, we considered the average alcohol consumption over a month, the percentage of binge and heavy drinkers, and the portion of the population that suffers the potentially dire health consequences of drinking too much.”

In Nashville, the typical adult consumed 8.92 drinks in an average month.

Boston, the least sober city, averages 14.4 drinks per month.
