Wayne Gretzky Rookie Card Sells For Record Amount
A Wayne Gretsky rookie card has just sold for $94,163. It is the highest amount ever paid for a hockey rookie card.
The 1979-80 Wayne Gretzky O-Pee-Chee rookie card was in absolute perfect condition. The PSA grading company gave the card a rating of Gem Mint 10, which is why the card attracted such a high price. The same card with a Gem Mint 9 rating is currently on sale on eBay for $8000.
The card, which was sold by California-based SCP Auctions, holds the record for the most expensive rookie card, but not the most expensive hockey card. That honor goes to a 1910-11 C56 Newsy Lalonde and a 1911-12 C55 Georges Vezina, both of which sold for $100,000.
