Urlacher Leaves Bears For Undetermined Amount of Time After Mother’s Death
Brian Urlacher might not be playing with the Chicago Bears this Sunday as they face off against the New Orleans Saints. The star linebacker’s mother, Lavoyda, died unexpectedly in Texas on Wednesday.
The LA Times reports that Urlacher left practice on Wednesday to attend to family matters. He has no set date of return.
Urlacher said:
“My first priority right now is to be with my family as we mourn her loss and make the arrangements to lay her to rest. This is a very difficult and emotional time for us and I sincerely ask that you respect our privacy.”
Coach Lovie Smith said that Urlacher can have as much time as he needs.
Smith said:
“Unless you’ve been through it, there’s no way to make it any better than it is at the time, but he’ll get through it.”
Urlacher had a big game during opening day last Sunday. The all-pro linebacker returned a fumble for a touchdown and had an interception against the Atlanta Falcons.
