Joe Paterno - Fired Penn State Football Coach

Following the sex scandal of former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky Penn State football coach Joe Paterno was fired on Wednesday night “effective immediately” after the university’s board of trustees held a vote.

Known as JoePa the living legend had announced earlier in the day that he would retire at the end of the season in order to help the school move past the scandal while allowing administrators to focus on the Sandusky investigation.

Paterno has been the head coach at PSU for 46 years and during his plans to retire he say trustees should:

”Not spend a single minute discussing my status. They have far more important matters to address.”

Following in the wake of the investigations casualties was President Graham Spanier who was allowed to resign from his post rather than suffer the same firing as Paterno.

Both men were under fire for not reporting the sexual abuse of young boys to police, incidents that went back as far as 1994.

Following the decision to fire Paterno hundreds of students took to the Penn State campus to chant their support for the beloved coach.

Do you think Paterno and Spanier should have been forced out the way they were?
