African Mango: The New Superfruit
After hearing so much about those ever-powerful superfruits, such as cranberries, pomegranates, acai berry, and others, it’s time for a new fruit to join the scene. Enter, African Mango. The newest weight-loss regimen includes this increasingly famous superfood.
Every so often, a fruit or vegetable is deemed a superfood. To be considered a superfood, the specimen must be high in essential nutrients, have health benefits, or both. For example, blueberries are categorized as a superfood because they are high in antioxidants, fiber, and many vitamins. Newly deemed superfruit, the mango, has more health benefits than previously known.
The mango is one of nature’s most succulent and juicy fruits. It is a native of East Asia, and is now widely cultivated in the tropics. Mangoes contain bioflavonoids, which serve to aid the immune system. The level of antioxidants in the mango is not as high as those in other fruits such as grapes, blueberries, acai berry or pomegranate. Mangos are becoming famous for other reasons.
The mango contains polyphenol extracts, which have been found to aid the fight against certain cancers such as leukemia, lung, and prostate. Mangos prove to be even more powerful against breast and colon cancer. CNN reports, “If you know little about this fruit, understand this: It’s been found to prevent or stop certain colon and breast cancer cells in the lab.” Polyphenol extracts are at work here, having been shown to kill cancer cells.
World-renowned resident doctor on the Oprah Winfrey Show, Dr. Oz sings the praises of the power in the African mango. On his show, the Dr. Oz touches on how important it is to incorporate fiber into a daily diet, and mango supplements can actually do this. The part of the mango that contains the most fiber is actually the seed. When ground up and taken in pill form, it is possible to get a great dose of fiber in addition to the other benefits of the fruit. Incorporating mangoes into a diet can also increase energy and metabolism, making it easier to lose weight.
