Congresswoman Giffords Retires A Year After Assassination Attempt
A year after Arizona congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was wounded by a gunshot wound to the head by an assassin, today she resigned from the House with a standing ovation.
Representative Giffords sat in the front row of the chamber hall as her close friend and colleague Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz read her letter of resignation. It has been a long road to recovery for congresswoman Giffords, and she still has far to go.
As the Associated Press reported recently, her fellow Representatives praised her for her “dignity, perseverance and grace.”
Her husband, retired Navy Captain Mark Kelly, and her mother Gloria watched from the balcony as Giffords received love and praise from the House. Many of her colleagues hope to see her return to Congress one day.
The entire staff of IndyPosted would like to extend its best wishes to the family of congresswoman Giffords, and would also like to say that violently targeting political officials no matter what their ideology is despicable and wrong.
