Timothy Rigdon Responds to Study Linking Lack of Vitamin D to Mobility Problems

Timothy Rigdon has been reported as stressing the importance of Vitamin D intake. Now, a study is linking Vitamin D deficiency to mobility issues as you age.

According to the Yahoo! Contributor Network, a study was performed on Vitamin D intake and mobility issues in those over age 70.

The article reports that the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center performed a study on black and white men and women over age 70. Participants were chosen based upon their physical disabilities. It is noted that this means difficulty walking a few blocks or walking up stairs.

The study was directed by Denise K. Houston, Ph.D., of Wake Forest University. The three thousand men and women chosen for the study were observed on their Vitamin D intake. The study found that there was a thirty percent increased risk of mobility problems when their Vitamin D levels were low.

According to the news source, “Vitamin D is crucial to muscle function. Having an insufficient amount has already been linked to disorders such as high blood pressure, bone-density thinning, cardiovascular disease, and lung disease.” It is advocated by the Mayo Clinic that each body receives ten minutes of sun exposure per day.  This can help lower your risk for developing mobility problems in the future.

Timothy Rigdon suggests that if older folks cannot get outside for ten minutes per day, they should turn to supplements.  Their intake should be at least 800 I.U. of Vitamin D each day from supplements or diet alterations.  It is extremely important for senior citizens to take enough Vitamin D per day so their mobility rate does not change.
