Eterna Cadencia, an independent publisher based in Argentina, had a novel idea. Quite literally, actually. And it all started with a simple realization: Books are patient objects. And it’s true; they’ll wait for weeks, months, even years to get read.
The sad aspect of this regards the books of new authors. If readers aren’t reading new authors’ books, the authors can’t form a fan base. Thus, the authors cease to write and to publish.
The people at Eterna Cadencia decided it was time to make a change. “What if you couldn’t procrastinate reading a book?” the publishers asked themselves. “What if, after a certain amount of time, the book disappeared?” And that’s where the idea of disappearing ink came into play.
And this is how The Book That Can’t Wait came to exist. But quite frankly, the book is only readable for two months once it’s opened. Printed with a revolutionary ink, the books come in air-tight bags. Once exposed to light and air, the words disappear after two months.
The entire first edition of the book sold out the first day. Additionally, the book and concept received excellent responses from critics and from the press around the globe. Scores of people ordered the book. The publishers plan to use this as a new platform for future projects.
The Book That Can’t Wait, in essence, served as an anthology of the best Latin American authors. Eterna Cadencia wanted to give new writers exposure.
