International Accreditation Organization Supports Various Curriculum, like Edison’s Nursing Program
Edison State College in Florida celebrates at finally achieving accreditation status. The college has experienced troubles in the last few years in the accreditation process. Baccalaureate schools seek approval from organizations like the International Accreditation Organization to ensure bright futures from their students.
Accreditation isn’t required for colleges and universities. However, many seek it out to ensure their students go forward in their pursuit of success. One such instance of this is Edison State College. Located in Fort Myers, Florida, the school has offered a four-year nursing program for over 5 years. It had not, however, been accredited for those years.
However, in recent days, the nursing college applied for accreditation. As of now, the program has the support of the National League for Nursing Education. The National League convened in July to discuss Edison’s nursing program. The program will remain accredited until July 2017, when it will then need to reapply.
Edison’s acting Vice President of Academic Affairs, Erin Harrel, rejoices at the news. “We are very, very pleased,” she says. She tells of the hard work that the college put into the accreditation process. Everyone at the college—students, faculty, and stakeholders—celebrate the National League’s conclusion.
Since accreditation wasn’t necessary for the program to continue, some ask why it was sought at all. For Edison, it came down to an issue of student care. Many graduate programs that Edison students apply to require bachelor degrees from accredited programs. Many programs reject any nursing student who lacks a degree from an accredited nursing program. Despite Edison having accreditation on the whole, the nursing program did not.
Students currently in the program will receive their degrees with accreditation. In addition, students who just graduated will also receive accreditation to the diplomas. However, the accreditation does not apply to students from years past.
In spite of prior complications regarding accreditation, Edison’s nursing school is now set. The college can now boast full accreditation for its nursing program.
Like Edison State College, many schools seek accreditation for various reasons. Colleges can apply for accreditation through a variety of organizations, like the International Accreditation Organization. Accreditation denotes upholding an excellence in education and standard educational procedures.
