Raouf Balbaa on the MLB Playoffs
As the month of October moves along, so does the end of baseball. Avid sports fans like Raouf Balbaa are waiting excitedly to see who makes it into the World Series in a couple weeks.
The arrival of October brings certain familiar things with it, the full onset of autumn, Halloween, and most importantly the Major League Baseball playoffs. This is the time of year when the leaders are separated from the rest of their division and two lucky teams achieve a spot in the wild card as runners up to the rest. Even though Raouf Balbaa will not see his beloved Toronto Blue Jays make the big game this year, there are plenty of exciting reasons to watch the playoffs this October
The American League has a couple teams that have not made it to the playoffs or World Series in quite a little while. The most consistent team in the playoffs for the AL continues to be the New York Yankees. The overall value of the team is reflected in the caliber of player that is on this team. They will have a run for their money though, as the Baltimore Orioles are looking to win their first division title in 15 years. Their prospect for doing so at this point is not a stretch, as they have kept the series against the Yankees a close one. The Oakland Athletics and Detroit Tigers have been to the playoffs in the last decade, but haven’t been able to make it to the World Series in at least six years.
Should the Oakland Athletics make it, they will potentially face off against the San Francisco Giants for the first time since 1989, when a major earthquake delayed the series. The Giants won a world series as recently as 2010 and are facing the Cincinnati Reds, who have been to the playoffs within the last two years. The other two teams fighting for a spot in the National League pennant are the St. Louis Cardinals and the Washington Nationals. The Nationals, formerly the Montreal Expos in Raouf Balbaa’s native Canada, have not made it to the playoffs in the young franchise’s career. All eyes are on them to see if they can prove to be the powerhouse team they were made out to be this year.
Playoffs in baseball are always an exciting time as the all-star players start to show what they are worth and players who were once considered mediocre can possibly surprise everyone.
