A recent study has found that over half of the nation’s children are not brushing their teeth as often as dentists recommend. Tran Dental Elk Grove reminds parents and children that brushing often is severely recommended.
Most people know that dentists recommend that everyone brush their teeth at least twice a day, more if possible. A recent study by the Ad Council has found that 56 percent of children are not brushing their teeth enough despite reminders from parents and dentists.
As Tran Dental Elk Grove can say, brushing teeth helps promote a clean mouth by freshening breath, cleaning off plaque, and removing bacteria that causes cavities. It can even remove bacteria that cause heart disease and other non-dental related illnesses. Of the children surveyed, most claimed that they felt like they didn’t have the time in the morning to brush. The Star Press in Muncie, Indiana did an interview of local children to see what the cause might have been.
One 11 year old said that they didn’t have time in the evening to brush their teeth. “I know I need to brush my teeth in the morning and at night. But by the time it’s time for bed, I just want to go to bed. I’m so tired, I don’t want to do anything else,” said Patty Simms of Muncie. She then says that she brushes her teeth in the morning and that should be enough. Dental hygienist Julie Frisch says, “I tell them, if you don’t want to be in this chair getting shots, you need to brush your teeth.” She recommends that parents get involved with their children’s dental habits, even if they are 8 or 9 years old.
Tran Dental Elk Grove encourages people to take care of their dental health regardless of income or insurance level. They feel that if parents were to warn children of the potential problems that can occur later in life, brushing could go back up. Dentists recommend that children sing the “Happy Birthday” song while brushing their teeth so they know how long to brush.
