Aerobic exercise has long been lauded as one of the most efficient type of exercise for burning fat. Hydroxycut recommends aerobics to anyone looking to start off the New Year by losing weight.
People looking to add weight loss to their New Year’s resolution shouldbase their exercise regimen around aerobic exercise. A recent Duke University study revealed that it helps reduce body fat with the least amount of time.
For a number of years, the consensus has been that overweight adults need to do both aerobic exercise and resistance weight training to lose weight. The idea was that aerobic exercise burns calories, while weight training increases muscle mass to raise a person’s metabolic rate.
The study, published in the Journal of Applied Physiology, consisted of 234 individuals. They were divided into three groups, each group adopting a different exercise regimen. The resistance training group participated in three days per week of weight lifting, with three sets per day, and 8-12 reps per set. Aerobic training consisted of 12 miles per week. The third group combined the two regimens.
By the end of the study, approximately half of the participants had completed the training. The data used consisted of their before and after total body mass, fat mass and lean body mass. The researchers found that the aerobic and aerobic plus resistance groups lost approximately the same amount of body and fat mass. The resistance training group lost the least amount of fat, and some people actually gained weight.
