Hugo Chavez Hires 200 Employees To Look After Twitter Account
Hugo Chavez, the president of Venezuela, once called Twitter at “tool of terror” so in true Chavez fashion his next logical step would be to start using the service, become the number one person in his country followed on Twitter with almost a quarter of a million followers and then to hire 200 people to manage the account.
According to Mashable, Chavez hired the employees to respond to the thousands of tweets and direct messages he has begun to receive. Currently he has 243,304 and he’s on 7641 lists with those numbers climbing very quickly.
Chavez has a “Verified Account” and is following just 5 other people. In any case with a country in which only 31% of people have internet it’s an impressive showing. Especially when you consider that he has received a reported 50,000 messages in the last two weeks (when he started tweeting).
Chavez is now calling Twitter:
“a weapon that also needs to be used by the revolution.”
