Kylie Minogue has likened Lady Gaga to a meteor crashing to earth.
The 42-year-old has been blown away by the younger singer’s flamboyant stage shows and unique sound. Gaga is famed for wearing unusual clothing – she has previously sported a lobster hat and an outfit made from sticky tape – and has revolutionised the music scene with her electro-pop tunes. Kylie is in awe of the relative newcomer, and thinks up-and-coming singers would do well to take notes on what she has achieved.
“She’s like a meteor that just came from outer space and landed on the pop landscape or pop/dance landscape. And just… there was dust in everyone’s,” she explained. “I think it’s amazing, what she has done for dance music. She’s largely responsible – along with others who have brought dance to the kind of mainstream or pop arena in the States. She’s incredibly talented. She’s an absolute force to be reckoned with and I’m a great admirer.”
Kylie is currently promoting her new album Aphrodite, which will be released next month. She has previously said recording the LP was hard work, but she is very happy with the results.
Although the album was not yet out, Kylie toured America late last year. She explained it was just something she felt she had to do, and was glad when it was so successful.
“It was a micro-tour, but I’ve got to tell you it was so rewarding,” she told American programme Access Hollywood. “It was a mission from the heart… It was like… setting my wallet on fire because basically it just made no financial sense to do it, but I just reached a point where I thought, ‘That’s it! I just wanna!’ I got a lot of reward from it. Right back to the heart, so it was amazing.”
