U2 are reportedly planning to perform at the 2011 Glastonbury festival, after they were forced to cancel their appearance this year.
The Irish rockers pulled out of their June 25 headline slot after frontman Bono injured his back while preparing for the band’s US tour last month. Bono was partially paralysed after the accident, and was rushed to hospital for emergency spinal surgery.
The procedure went well, but Bono’s doctors have ordered him to rest for three months, forcing U2 to pull out the UK festival and postpone their US shows.
The rockers are said to be so disappointed about their Glastonbury cancellation, they are already in talks with organisers to perform at next year’s event.
“They’ve never played here before and we’re very disappointed they can’t perform,” a festival spokesperson told British music magazine NME. “But they could well be back next year.”
U2’s empty slot at the festival will be filled by the Gorillaz. Over the weekend, the band’s bassist and spokesman Murdoc hinted that rapper Snoop Dogg will join the group onstage to perform a live duet of their hit Welcome To The World Of The Plastic Beach.
When asked who he wanted to see at the festival, Murdoc said: “Snoop Dogg, Mos Def and The Hypnotic Brass. But then I can watch them with us when we play… maybe.”
