In a move to get more people more familiar with electric vehicles, Schoolcraft College is hosting the 2nd second annual Michigan Electric Vehicle Rally & Show, reports Detroit News.

Around 50 Electric Vehicles were present in the event sponsored by the college’s Electronic Technology program and the Michigan Electric Auto Association.

Part of the festivities is the free option for the visitors to actually ride in an electric vehicle with its owners for a more personal and hands-on experience of getting more familiar with the vehicles and the technology.

Another highlight of the event are the “converted EVs” which were once regular gas-powered vehicles but had their internal combustion engines replaced with electric ones or in hybrid systems such as a Porsche Carrera and a Ford Ranger Pickup truck. Their respective owners give a personal account of how they have found the conversion to be a successful, eco-friendly move.

The event is also an opportunity for Schoolcraft College to showcase its Engineering, electronic technology, welding and fabrication and other related programs showcasing the students’ potential in both design and job opportunities.
