Die By The Gun: Firing Squad Executes Ronnie Lee Gardner

Convicted murderer Ronnie Lee Gardner, 49, was executed Friday by a Utah state firing squad of police officers, finding out firsthand what it means to “live by the gun and die by the gun.” A target was placed over Gardner’s heart after he was strapped to a chair, according to ABC News. He was shot with .30-caliber rifles by a team of five marksmen.
Gardner spent a quarter century on death row after killing Michael Burdell and Melvyn John Otterstrom in the mid-1980s. Gardner also wounded George “Nick” Kirk, who died later as a result of his injuries.
