What difference does 686 feet make? Depends on timing.
There are many mosques in Manhattan. The only difference between building a new mosque today and building a mosque a few years ago is the attack on the World Trade Center which created what is now referred to as Ground Zero.
There already is a mosque located about 2000 feet from Ground Zero.
With all the outcry over the new Islamic Cultural Center (including a mosque) being built near Ground Zero
one might think this was the first mosque in Manhattan.
Conservative critics from around the country are expressing their outrage at such “disrespect.” President Obama chose a dinner during Ramadan to express his view that the mosque should be allowed to be constructed anywhere. He did not advocate it’s location – only pointing out the right of religious groups to worship anyplace as promised by the constitution.
From a list at IslamiCity.com, the map shown above (link here) was created.
How close is too close? Critics (most who don’t live in Manhattan) are saying “that depends on when you ask.”
