A Florida Man is suing rappers Lil Wayne and Birdman after his voice was used on the 2006 song “Respect” and various other songs from both artists records. The Florida man, Thomas Marasciullo claims in a copyright infringement lawsuit field Friday that his voice was used without his permission or compensation.
According to the lawsuit Cash Money Records requested that Marasciullo recorded several “Italian-styled word recordings” in 2006 and then the company used those clips without compensation for his work and with permission to sample his voice.
Along with the song “Respect” Mr. Marasciullo also claims that his voice was also sampled on other tracks from Lil Wayne “Like Father, Like Son” album released in 2006 and on Birdman’s 2007 “5 (Star) Stunna.”
It hasn’t been a good week for Lil Wayne who now faces up to one year in jail after pleading guilty last week to an illegalw weapons possession case in New York. Just like this copyright dispute those charges were from several years back, in that case in 2007.
