The Sony PS3 had briefly overtook the Nintendo Wii in recent sales after releasing their $299 PS3 Slim. Unfortunately that honeymoon was short lived for the company as Nintendo once again surged ahead in overall October sales, selling 506,900 units, a number down by 18 percent from the same period in 2008.
PS3 sales were considerably lower with nearly 320,600 units, far less than Nintendo console sales, while the Microsoft created Xbox 360 sat at only 249,700 units sold. However Microsoft managed the most “hardware, software and peripherals, but only just, edging out the PS3′s combined sales of 27 percent to 26″ according to Electronista.
Overall sales numbers from year to year have been impressive for Sony with an 18 percent increase from October 2008, while Microsoft has watched their Xbox 360 sales fall by 33 percent and Nintendo has watched sales drop 37 percent in the same time period.
With the holiday season fast approaching sales numbers should pick up, especially with two-game PS3 and a six-game Xbox 360 bundles being offered as Best Buy Black Friday specials and a host of other providers getting ready to release their own holiday bundle deals.
