MV Maersk Alabama Attacked For Second Time By Somali Pirates

MV Maersk Alabama Cargo Ship

The US-flagged container ship, the MV Maersk Alabama was attacked by Somali Pirates just 7 months after Pirates had taken the ships captain as a hostage and were later killed by Navy Snipers.

This time the crew from the MV Maersk Alabama returned fire on the pirates as they opened fire on the cargo ship with automatic weapons just 350 miles east of Somalia.

In this most recent round of piracy no casualties have been reported and no reports have been released as to whether EU Naval Forces in the area were able to capture the pirates.

Cdr John Harbour, of the EU’s naval force, told BBC News it was:

“pure chance” that the MV Maersk Alabama had been targeted for a second time.

Congratulations to the crew of the Alabama for fighting back and keeping the pirates at bay in this most recent round of mounting attempts to stop piracy along the Somali coast. Now if only the Somalian government would do the same.
