Michelle Obama Ape Woman Photo Will Remain On Google Search

Michelle Obama Ape Photo Will Stay On Google

Google has been drawing protests from some internet users who believe they should remove the Michelle Obama Ape Photo from the Google Images search engine. The picture, which is seen as racist began showing up a little while back and Google has no plans of removing the image.

While it’s true that depicting African Americans as apes is highly offensive, Google has released the following statement:

“The beliefs and preferences of those who work at Google, as well as the opinions of the general public, do not determine or impact our search results.”

In this case I have to agree with Google. While the image may be offensive, in my opinion very offensive, it’s still not illegal and Google has also promised repeatedly not to interfere with which search results they display in terms of lawful content.

Feel free to leave a comment and bitch about the photo all you want, but I’m not publishing any comments with racial slurs, so get over yourself.

Indeed. All the activists and African Americans can get over themselves. The world doesn't revolve around racism. Give it a fucking rest. This picture simply depicts the similar appearances of Michelle Obama and a monkey. Plus, she really does look like that.

I think that's Google's entire point Annon. Personally I think it's in bad taste and I only actively searched it out for this report, but to each their own.

Anybody who wants this image removed is idiotic. I have the right to enjoy this image, you have the right not to.

It doesn't have to be illegal to be in bad taste, it's merely that illegal acts are the only censored Google search removal actions, per their own policy.

Google is forced to censor in China or lose their right to provide search results. It also has to do with China laws on what can be displayed. It all comes back to Google saying they will only filter search to follow rules of law.

Good point about the beheadings, but I do think that those images would be far more upsetting to family members than the Michelle Obama Photo, less we forget her husband is called a Terrorist by the far right constantly and has been portrayed in much worse light. I also think that by showing them it was propagating the fear terrorists were trying to instill and could be seen as unlawful, since Google removes unlawful images they have an out on that one in my opinion.

Doesn't Google censor search results in China? I thought their youth had no idea about tiananmen square, etc. What's the difference?

I believe it is offensive and potentially dangerous. Google wants to remain uninvolved but where was that sentiment when the hostages were beheaded and the photos were removed. Seems like double standards!!!!! I know the arguments I will hear but she is someones family just like they were and it is just as detrimental to her children.

It's absolutely an awful charicture, but I can't help but remembering how little control there seemed to be in the last administration, with the images, blogs, and charictures of the Bush and Cheney families. And Sarah Palin, my goodness... where would I start with exampes? Should we look the other way if we are not passionate about another administrations views. Will we hold this standard in the future? Just curious.

Lol Sorry if my comment seems accusing Sherry, I was just letting you know what the issue was. If it just looked like someone from the planet of the apes people wouldn't have cared, it's more that her name is associated with it. Either way I think its much to do about nothing.

since when does something HAVE TO BE ILLEGAL TO BE IN POOR, VERY POOR TASTE. this is the First Lady. Google should be outraged. No matter how anyone voted for or not for Obama. this reflects on our people as a whole. I urge Google to remove this image; it is completely disgusting, backwards and tasteless.

It is offensive I would agree but since Google is right in the middle and if they took that off then some one else would then complain about something else and before you know it you would not have ANY Freedom AT PERIOD even in Cyberspace not like we have much freedom in real life. Who ever created that picture is probley enjoying all the Insane Traffic that could be redirecting somewhere to one of their sites or blogs. Just hope they did not inbed Google Adsense code into that picture like I heard that people used to get away with that hack in the past.
