Top 10 Highest Paid YouTube Stars (video)

Featured News, YouTube

youtube stars

There is a lot of money to be made on Youtube. In fact, these ten YouTube stars are rumored to have earned close to or more than $100,000 dollars from ad revenue based solely on their Youtube video postings.

TubeMogul, an advertising company, used the page views from these “independent users” to come up with an estimate of how much they make from ads, “TubeMogul defined “independent user” as someone who is not affiliated with a media company or brand.

Yahoo has more about how TubeMogul reached their conclusions, but for now, here are the top ten highest paid stars on YouTube.

As a suggestion, don’t take these numbers at exact face value, since CPM (amount earned per 1,000 pageviews) are only estimated and quite honestly TubeMogul and Yahoo News had Mediocre Films with 40 million more pageviews than they actually had, we dropped Mediocre Films to number 10 based off proper pageviews and we only used the list as a way to show off top viewed independent users channels.

Michelle is a major spokeswoman for Lacome and they push users her way, this list was made up of "independent users" Otherwise Lady Gaga and other corporate workers would have been way above in terms of views.

She's not independent. She has a lot of endorsement deals... Mainly with Lancome.

Hey Bertdekocc, thanks for the comment. You are correct it was off, we received the information just as Yahoo News did from believe it or not a professional advertising/analytics company. I dropped Mediocre Films to number 10 and clearly stated that these numbers are only estimated based off some "reported" eCPM levels for top YouTube partners. I also removed the annual statement as they are total pageviews. In any case, the number of pageviews, based off independent user channels, still remains and places these 10 independent users at the top of the YouTube partner channel outside of network created channels. Thanks again for pointing out the oversight, we'll be sure to avoid any analytics information from TubeMogul in the future.

Bertdekocc, as stated several times for those who are not dumb like yourself, these are for "independent users" , not for companies, as I already stated there are many bigger than that "Demand Media" being one. A company is not a "STAR" just think about it for a second, you don't call "20th Century Fox" a "STAR" you call each of their actors a star. Yes I realize Mediocre Films has many more views, but they employ various individuals to make their videos, while each of the "Stars" on this list are individuals who create all their videos for the most part with them as the central figure, most oftentimes they are that figure. I can name at least 50 entertainment networks that have many more views, but not individuals.

I've heard two different stories. I've heard based on page views AND based on the amount of clicks their ads get. Then I heard they only get money when people click ads. Personally, I think it's the first one.

Machinima isn't a "YouTube Star" they are an entertainment network. The list above includes individuals, just as you would have TV Stars. Machinima would be the equivalent of putting "FOX TV" on a list next to "Charlie Sheen" when coming up with the top TV earners. Does that make sense? If you want to talk big networks, we could have Demand Media (Almost 2 million views) and various others.

Yeah Angie, as stated in the article it's based off a specific eCPM estimate which in my opinion is decently accurate.

Yeah....I knew of 3 names on the list myself, but alas, I don't know the name of every active CEO making over a million a year, but they do exist. After watching all 10, I would say some people on YouTube are making a lot of money for doing absolutely nothing interesting.

Macihinima isn't a YouTube "Star" they are an entire entertainment network. That would be like announcing the highest paid TV stars and then asking why NBC isn't on the list. Does that make sense? If you want to talk really big YouTube "Stars" in terms of company, try Demand Media properties.....they are even bigger than Machinima.

wheres machinima? im pretty sure they're partners and the have over a billion overall views :S

I think this was an estimate. YouTube partners aren't allowed to discuss how much money they make.. They can lose their partnership if they do. I think they make most of their money from endorsements.

Sxephil talked about this in his most recent PhilipDefranco - channel video. He said the estimates are way off. Not really sure which to believe, but it seems nearly impossible to come up with someones salary off of channel views alone. I'm sure a lot of factors go in to a Youtubers salary.

You dont get payed for subscribers you get payed for views that's mostlikely why.

Most subscribed doesn't mean most watched. YouTube pays on a CPM rate (Cost per 1000 pageviews)

It happens when you become a youtube partner then when you're videos get a ton of views you get money if the ad's on you're page get clicked you get payed for that to.
