Before the MotoGP riders took to the track today at the Indianapolis GP, a group of young riders had a warm up session to prepare for the MD250H race. Peter Lenz, 13, was in an accident and suffered “traumatic injuries” that ultimately caused his death.

The Associated Press reports that Lenz fell on the track during the warmup session, and was consequentially run over by Xavier Zayat. Zayat was not injured in the accident.

The medical team at the Indy GP put Lenz in a neck brace, and transported him to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

According to NBC, the Marion County coroner has come out to confirm Peter Lenz’ death.

Peter Lenz was from Vancouver, Washington. It is the first death at the historic Indy track since 2003.
