The Walk Disney company has officially announced the launch of ESPN 3D, a new channel that will debut in June 2010 and will be Americas first full 3D TV network. According to the company, they will air at least 85 live sporting events in the first year of broadcasting.
In a statement released to the press, ESPN executive Sean Bratches said:
“This will be a meaningful step to drive adoption of 3D television sets and afford opportunities for our affiliates to create value through new product offerings, and our advertisers, who want fresh sponsorship opportunities.”
With 3D movie sales skyrocketing at theaters and many 3D TVs expected to be announced this week at CES, the revealing of 3D channels are more than likely to continue throughout the year. In the last week of December 2009 the DirecTV 3D channel was also announced.
Users will still have to wear 3D glasses for the programming and available sporting events and movies in 3D are still limited and will be for the foreseeable future.
If you’re excited about the new 3D channel you’ll be able to catch the June 11th launch of the companies programming during the South Africa vs. Mexico World Cup match. They also plan to offer 25 other world cup matches, feature the Summer X Games, and various basketball and football matches from the college level among other events.
