Al Gore Gets Happy Ending

Police Drop Alleged Massage Sex Assault Investigation

Al GoreAl Gore may have gotten his happy ending. The former vice president of the United States, Nobel Peace Prize winner and climate change activist won’t be charged in a sexual assault accusation stemming from a massage in Portland, Oregon in 2006. The accusation doesn’t warrant a criminal prosecution, Portland police say, because of a lack of credible evidence against Gore.

The masseuse, Molly Hagerty, twice accused Gore of sexually assaulting her when she was hired to give him a massage in Portland while he was in the area delivering a speech on climate change. The first time Hagerty made the accusation, the case was closed for lack of evidence. But it was reopened again in June following a report by the National Enquirer in which Hagerty made the accusation again, and claimed she had evidence. A photo in the Enquirer showed her holding up a pair of pants she said had Gore’s DNA.

She also said she had a corroborating witness and video from hotel surveillance cameras. Gore said he did receive a massage from Hagerty, but maintained that he did not assault her in any way.

After the Enquirer article appeared, Gore family spokesperson, Kalee Kreider issued a statement, saying, “Mr. Gore unequivocally and emphatically denied this accusation when he first learned of its existence three years ago. He stands by that denial.” The case has been closed for the second time because Hagerty has reportedly refused to take a polygraph and because she may have been paid by the Enquirer for the story, according to BBC News. Gore and his wife, Tipper, separated in June.

Chelsea Clinton Wedding: A-Listers Expected

Chelsea Clinton

A number of A-list celebrities are expected to be at Chelsea Clinton’s upcoming wedding to Marc Mezvinsky July 31. Chelsea’s mom, Hillary Clinton, U.S. Secreatry of State, said the family is trying to keep details of the wedding mum, state-secret style. But rumors are already swirling that the 400-member guest list could include Oprah Winfrey, Barbra Streisand, Steven Spielberg and Ted Turner. President Obama was invited, but White House representatives said he won’t be attending. However, another person who’s served as President of the United States will be there, Chelsea’s father, Bill Clinton, who will be walking his daughter down the aisle.

By all accounts, the wedding will be the closest America’s going to get to a “royal” wedding this year. The location of the wedding hasn’t been officially released, but news reports say it will likely be in Rhinebeck, N.Y., within driving distance of New York City. The bride will wear Oscar de la Renta. Chelsea, 30, met Mezvinsky, 32, when they were teenagers, but didn’t become a couple until later.

Goodbye French Vanilla – Baskin Robbins Retires 5 Flavors

baskin robbins

Baskin Robbins is known for having 31 flavors. But the ice cream store has decided to retire five of its flavors, including the simplest, French Vanilla.

Baskin Robbins will also retire, or as they call it, put in “deep freeze,” Campfire S’mores, Apple Pie a La Mode, Caramel Praline Cheesecake, and Superfudge Truffle.

This is the first time Baskin Robbins have ever put a flavor into “deep freeze.” They have retired flavors before, but they were trendy, topical flavors, that weren’t meant to last. CNN reports that they created and retired Saxy Politician, in 1996, in honor of Bill Clinton, and they retired Lunar Cheesecake in 1969 after the moon landing.

But French Vanilla is not a fad. It’s been at Baskin Robbins since 1945.

Baskin Robbins will add five new flavors to their ice cream buckets for their 65th anniversary, but no word on what those flavors will be yet.

Bill Clinton: It’s A Strange World After All

Bill Clinton

The world’s an unpredictable place, Bill Clinton told Yale seniors Sunday, shortly after the former U.S. president was involved in a minor traffic accident on the way to the event.

“It (the world) is too unstable; it is too unequal, and it is completely unsustainable,”

Clinton said, after his secret service van was hit from behind while stuck in a traffic jam north of New Haven, Connecticut. Clinton wasn’t injured, and he wasn’t in any danger, state police told ABC News.

During his talk at Yale, Clinton didn’t mention the accident.

But he did give the Yale seniors a bit of advice to gain knowledge and understanding: Try listening to people you disagree with.

“In our media habits, we go to the television sites, we go to the radio talk shows, we go to the blog sites that agree with us, and it can have very bizarre consequences,”

Clinton said.

10 World Leaders Who Didn't Start Out In Politics

495px-Andrew_Jackson2_1862_Issue-2c

There are some political leaders who never had a job outside of politics. I don’t find them so interesting. Here are some with interesting experiences outside of politics.

Everyone knows about Ronald Reagan. He used to be a movie star before he went into politics. As a member of the Screen Actors Guild, he used to be quite liberal, but moved to the right with time.

King Norodom Sihanouk of Cambodia kept his move job even after he became king. Time Magazine reports as follows about what the credits looked like in ” Shadow Over Angkor”.

“Shadow opened the festivities in Pnompenh, and it was a tossup whether the credits or the plot were more interesting. The credits were relatively simple: Producer, Norodom Sihanouk; Director, Norodom Sihanouk; Scenario, Norodom Sihanouk; Dialogue, Norodom Sihanouk; Music, Norodom Sihanouk; Star, Norodom Sihanouk. The story line, on the other hand, was a bit more complex.”

Gordon Brown, who is the Prime Minister of Britain for the time being started his career as a television journalist. According to Bio, a rugby accident has left Brown blind in one eye and with 30% vision in the other eye.

Fidel Castro, who  became dictator of Cuba in 1959 and relinquished power to his brother Raul after Briefly flirting with the assumption of room temperature in 2008 in the aftermath of a serious illness. He was trained as a lawyer at the University of Havana. His training in law and the ways of the courtroom served him well in 1953 when he stood trial in Cuba for the attack he led  on the Moncada Barracks. He gave a famous and masterful speech titled “History Will Absolve Me.” It is an irony of history that Castro’s own political opponents were often shot rather than released after 5 years as was Castro in 1958.

Ho Chi Minh, who became the dictator of communist North Vietnam from 1945 until his death in 1969 was once a dishwasher in New York City.

Angela Merkel,  is the first female Chancellor of Germany. She is also the first Chancellor of a united Germany to come from the former communist East Germany. She has a doctorate in physics. Her dissertation was on quantum mechanics. Having grown up under communism certainly gives her some unique perspectives when functioning in a democracy. As a woman in science and a female head of state, Merkel should be a darling of the feminists. Since she is a political conservative, all that doesn’t count.

Harry Truman was the only President in the 20th century not to graduate from college. He ran a business with a partner that sold dry goods. Prior to that he worked as a timekeeper on a railroad. He also did a stint in the mail room of the Kansas City Star.

Josip Broz Tito, former dictator of Yugoslavia was a a machinist who worked in the Benz factory between 1911 and 1913. He was also a test driver.  His phenomenal track record with countless women makes Bill Clinton look timid by comparison. The Titoville.com web site does not trifle with his numerous conquests but only lists the 18 women that he  married  and/or impregnated.

Andrew Jackson our 7th President was a saddlemaker and the last American President  to have fought in the American Revolution. At the age of 13, when he was a prisoner of war, a British soldier slashed him with a sword for refusing to shine his shoes. His education is described as sporadic. Whenever farm chores did not claim his attention, he was sent to a “field school”.

My favorite world leader is Vaclav Havel, who was the first freely elected leader of Czechoslovakia after the communists were swept out of power in 1989. He is a playright and did time in communist jails under trying conditions. It’s one thing to be a political outsider, but to do time for political offenses, to survive and be elected to office certainly gives one familiarity with the highs and lows of the wheel of fortune.

There are plenty of people who spent their lives in politics. It is the people who pried (or shot) open the doors of power that interest me.

Top 10 Celebrities Who Were Adopted

The big celebrity news this week was that Sandra Bullock adopted a beautiful baby boy from New Orleans. Other celebrities have also taken measures to give homes to children without parents – Angelina Jolie definitely comes to mind but Rosie O’Donnell, Sharon Stone, Babe Ruth, Nicole Kidman, and a number of other famous figures are also adoptive parents. Some of your favorite celebrities themselves are adopted. In no particular order, here are ten awesome celebrities who were adopted as children:

Steve Jobs

1. Steve Jobs

Jobs is living proof that having a rough start to life doesn’t mean that you can’t be someone. The Apple co-founder was adopted by Paul and Clara Jobs, who also adopted his sister, Patty. Eventually, his biological parents, Joanne Simpson and Abdulfattah Jandali, got married and had another child, so Jobs has a biological sister as well.

Dean Cain

2. Dean Cain

Best known for his role as superman in the ’90s, Cain’s mother, Sharon Thomas, and father, Roger Tanaka, were divorced before he was even born. When his mother remarried Christopher Cain, the director decided to adopted her two sons, Dean and Roger.

John Lennon

3. John Lennon

This Beatles star had a very troubled childhood. He was born to Julia and Alfred Lennon, and there was a bit of a custody battle between them until he was about five. Ultimately, he was raised by his mother’s sister, Mary Smith, who once said, “I knew the moment I saw John in that hospital that I was the one to be his mother, not Julia. Does that sound awful? It isn’t, really, because Julia accepted it as something perfectly natural. She used to say, ‘You’re his real mother. All I did was give birth.’”

Ice-T

4. Ice-T

Ice-T, otherwise known as Tracy Marrow, was born to Solomon and Alice Marrow in New Jersey, but both of his parents died when he was a child. He was adopted by his aunt in California in third grade.

Daunte Culpepper

5. Daunte Culpepper

This famous football player was born to a mother in prison and was adopted by Emma Culpepper, who ultimately raised an astounding 15 children.

Sarah Mclachlan

6. Sarah McLachlan

McLachlan was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia and was adopted to Jack and Dorice McLachlan, an American couple living in Canada at the time. The McLachlans have other adopted children as well.

Marilyn Monroe

7. Marilyn Monroe

Actually, Monroe was never officially adopted. This buxom beauty was born Norma Jeane Baker to Gladys Baker, who was mentally unstable, and she lived with foster parents foster parents Albert and Ida Bolender until she was seven. Her mother took her back, but had a mental breakdown after just a few months. She spent the rest of her childhood living with friends of her mother, with aunts, at orphanages, and in foster homes. Several people tried to adopt her, but her mother was reluctant to give up her rights. At points, she lived back with her mother and an abusive step-father, and eventually married a boyfriend at age 16 to avoid going back into the system, since her mother wouldn’t allow an adoption.

Bill Clinton

8. Bill Clinton

Clinton was raised by his grandparents Eldridge and Edith Cassidy, since his mother had dreams of going to college and his father died in an automobile accident before he was born. When he was four or five, his mother came back from nursing school and married Roger Clinton, who raised Bill as his own and officially adopted him as a teen.

Faith Hill

9. Faith Hill

Hill was born Audrey Faith Perry in Mississippi, and was adopted as an infant to a couple in a nearby town. She was raised with two brothers who were biological children for her parents. In the early ’90s, she tracked down her biological mother and the two remained in contact until her mother’s death.

Tim McGraw

10. Tim McGraw

Although fewer people know his wife Faith Hill is adopted, McGraw’s parental issues are pretty well known. He grew up believing that adoptive father was Horace Smith, but in reality, his mother was pregnant by sports start Tug McGraw. Tug denied Tim as his son for several years before finally confirming paternity when he was 18.

Bill Clinton's Remarks On The 15th Anniversary Of The Oklahoma Bombing

Oklahoma city bombing

Bill Clinton expressed worries about heated political rhetoric inciting the violent extremes of the political spectrum. As a leading national Democrat, it was pretty clear that his stern gaze was focused on the right side of the political spectrum. The Guardian quotes Mr. Clinton’s remarks on the 15th anniversary of the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing as follows.

“As we exercise the right to advocate our views, and as we animate our supporters, we must all assume responsibility for our words and actions before they enter a vast echo chamber and reach those both serious and delirious, connected and unhinged.”

In today’s New York Post, Michael Goodwin, an editorial columnist quoted some of the comments he received from supporters of the Obama administration’s Israeli policy as follows

“U try to make ‘our’ president a pro muslim, when your ‘Jewish’ nation is the cause of most of our problems. Your PM is nothing more than a terrorist, but u defend him. I told u before, when u were in Israel, stay there.” Bob De John

The second writer also has grammar and spelling problems and a bellyful of hate. “You and the rest of that jew political group continually licking honey off your nasty tongues, are much more loyal to the country of israel than you are to The United States of America. That is only one reason why most Americans do not like the jew people.” – Joey Dluzak”

It is clear that there are those on the left who are stirred to feverish hatred by any appearance of Israel in the news. Goodwin says that his mailbox has been flooded with an uptick in anti Israel and anti Jewish hate letters like the one’s cited above.

It is possible and perhaps even common to take a dim view of Israel and bear no animus towards Jews. It is wise to fight opposition to Israel with facts and comparisons of Israel with other nations fighting similar difficulties.  It is in exchanges like this that public opinion shifts.

To lump in liberals with communists and Oklahoma bombers with impassioned law abiding conservatives is divisive and counterproductive.

But there are a significant number of people whose hate is triggered by normal heated debate.  Michael Goodwin saw that in his mail box. It exists on the left and on the right.

Sometimes a politician will find he or she appeals to a bigot or potentially violent extremist. Rather than greedily suck up every vote, the following statement might be in order. I left the name blank because the statement is not pointed to the left or to the right.

It has come to my attention that (*********************) has voiced his support for me. I am aware that (******************) is a supporter of bigotry and violence. I condemn (********). I do not share his values. I do not want his support. To the contrary, I would rather lose the election than be dependent upon his support for victory. If (*************) is your man, I would rather you stay home than to vote for me.

Such a declaration is suitable for violent groups and groups that incite racial and ethnic hatred. Such groups exist on the left and the right, and among all racial groups.

Once this understanding exists, it should be beyond the pale to lump one’s political opponents with violent extremists. Liberal Democrats should not be lumped together with violent leftists. And Tea Party activists should not be lumped in with Timothy McVeigh. Discuss why ideas are beneficial, or why they are harmful. And if you are going to condemn the other side’s lunatic fringe, make sure you condemn your own.

Bush Wipes Hands On Clinton's Shirt. It Doesn't Take Much To Go Viral These Days [Video]

George Bush Hand Wipe Video with Bill Clinton - Haitian

During a recent trip to Haiti former Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton met with groups of Haitians and during a hand shake President Bush appeared to wipe his hands on Clinton’s shirt, a fact that has made the BBC News captured video of the incident go viral.

The Huffington Post is reporting that Breitbart.TV first caught wind of the video and brought it to the public’s attention.

Honestly, to me it looks like he just swiped Clinton on his shoulder or was just feeling for him in the crowd to stay close, in any case there have been outcries and jokes made about the incident, especially on various comment sections found on YouTube where the video has climb over 700,000 views.

If it was a way for Bush to wipe off the handshake of a Haitian it makes me wonder how he hasn’t figured out at this point that the media catches everything he does in public, you would think his microphone gaffes would have taught him that.

Check out the video for yourself and tell us what you think:
