Dallas Cowboys tight end Martellus Bennett is apologizing for naked pictures of himself that have surfaced on the Internet, saying in a statement that the pics were from four years ago and posted on the World Wide Web without his knowledge or consent. The photos allegedly found their way onto the Internet by way of an ex-girlfriend. The photos show a naked Bennett holding up a camera phone to a bathroom mirror.
In his apology, Bennett said he understood the photos are inappropriate, and that he regrets the embarrassment the pictures have caused to the team.
Before joining the Cowboys in the 2008 draft, Bennett played football for Texas A&M University. The Cowboys website says he’s done charitable events with the team, but also has video in which Bennett tells reporters he’s given up his Marty B persona online. Bennett’s online behavior has gotten him into hot water before, once when he allegedly donned a beard to play a character he called “Osama Been Happenin,’” and again when he was fined $22,000 because of explicit lyrics in a YouTube rap video.
