A few weeks back the official Blackberry App for Twitter was launched, then the company acquired Tweetie (giving them an official iPhone app) and now they’ve officially launched their Google Android offering and they’ve blogged about it, stepping outside of 160 characters or less…shame on you Twitter.
Google Android is going the way of the Apple iPhone series, releasing what appears to be an endless stream of applications on more than an hour by hour basis. Reports are now stating that the mobile OS managed to push out over 9,000 new applications during the month of March.
Google just announced their newest mobile application “Google Shopper” a mobile shopping program that allows users to search for products using various means much like past applications such as ShopSavvy.
While it’s still only a rumor, there’s a good chance that an official WordPress app is soon to arrive for the Google Android platform with the wordpress.org subdomain “android.wordpress.org” setup, although not in use at this time.
The “official” Facebook App launched this morning for Google Android and is now available through the Android Market. We say “official” because it was actually developed by Google and not Facebook programmers.
Proving the need for stronger Google Android Market Apps regulations, the program MemoryUP which claims to help your device run faster by better managing your units memory has been cited for major device issues.
The program which was placed on the marketplace app by developer Peter Liu has led to many devices entire memory being wiped out, while other users are reporting a ton of email spam messages hitting their mailboxes after installing the app.
Here’s some user experiences as posted on Gizmodo.
User “kr33p1n” (via Geek.com) said, “Doesn’t work at all erased my phone numbers and froze my phone.” User “Mark” added, “Do not download. Destroyed my memory card/system delete. Then my email was spammed. TMobile can’t stop you from downloading this! So don’t!”
What we don’t understand is how a program with more than 10,000 downloads and a rating of 1 star with 932 ratings managed to stay on the Marketplace for so long.
BTW Java cleans up its own messes so this application was useless even without all the issues it caused. [via Gizmodo]
