The MSRP for Intel SSD’s was slashed today amid a market that has watched memory prices rise at ridiculous rates over the last 6 months. The price reduction specifically targets the X25-M series of devices as the 160GB drive sees a $100 drop to $630 and the 80GB model falling to $320 from the original $370. The 80GB SSD was at nearly $750 in december alone. Intel also announced that they will increase the number of 80GB and 160GB 1.8-inch drives which have been sold in short supply over the last year.
The Western Digital My book external hard drive line now has a new offering, a 2 Terabyte single disk storage drive that’s sleek, compact, and is available via the Home Edition, Essential Edition, Mac Edition and My Book Studio Models.
Apricorn today announced their newest 1.8 inch external hard drive. The Apricorn Aegis Mini Line 1.8 Inch External Drive holds 240GB and is available in both USB 2.0 and FireWire connection options. The previous model offered 160GB and even with the memory increase the new version is still small enough to fit in your shirt pocket at about the same size as a deck of cards. This Aegis drive also features shock resistant mounting with the FireWire or USB 2.0 cables being integrated.
NAS units aren’t always that appealing to the eyes, then again most NAS devices aren’t the Western Digital My Book World Edition, a clean and sleek device available in 1TB and 2TB sizes for a respectable $230 and $450 respectively. Environmentalists rejoice! Western Digital has just started selling their new 2TB “Green” drive. What makes this unit so eco-friendly? First it uses variable spin speeds and lower temperatures than traditional hard drives and it outputs at quieter decibel levels. With 10% of market users already taking advantage of 1TB drives it should be an easy and “clean” transition.
So why would users need a 2TB drive, after all that’s kind of massive, but according to Mark Geenen, President of Trend Focus.
“While some in the industry wondered if the end consumer would buy a 1 TB drive, already some 10 percent of 3.5-inch hard drive sales are at the 1 TB level or higher, serving demand from video applications and expanding consumer media libraries,”
