
In a bid to to adapt to the changing business landscape, network solutions and mobile phone maker Motorola is going to spin off its mobile phone business as a separate entity, reports ComputerWorld.
In a recent filing to the Securities and Exchange Commission, Motorola will be split into two entities, each focusing on their own niche.
Motorola Mobility will focus on making handsets and home entertainment equipment, such as TV set-top boxes. This new unit will be headed by Sanjay Jha, who at present is the co-CEO of Motorola and the CEO of its Mobile Devices and Home businesses.
The other entity which is the original corporation will retain the enterprise and carrier infrastructure businesses and be renamed as Motorola Solutions, according to the report. It specializes in making wireless LAN gear, public safety communications equipment and service-provider networks.
With this restructuring, Motorola expects to continue its current trend with most of its businesses except the Mobile Device report in the green.
